The documents are the first pieces of evidence shown to IBM since SCO filed its lawsuit against the computer giant in March of 2003.

SCO, which purchased the rights to UNIX from AT&T in 1995, alleges that IBM violated its intellectual property rights by allowing parts of its UNIX software code to be used in Linux. IBM licenses UNIX code in order to develop its own UNIX-based system called AIX. The company is also a major supporter of Linux, a platform that enjoys widespread use in large enterprise environments.

After filing its lawsuit in March 2003, SCO revoked IBM’s UNIX licensing rights in June.

Earlier this month, SCO issued letters to 6,000 UNIX licenses, asking them to certify that they are in compliance with all UNIX source code agreements.

Late last week, the company entered discussions with Google about a UNIX licensing agreement.
