(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Open-source collaboration software provider Open-Xchange (www.open-xchange.com) and object storage software developer Scality (www.scality.com) have partnered to develop massively-scalable email and cloud storage solutions for large web hosts, ISPs and telcos.
Scality provides solutions to meet the storage demands of the world’s largest email and Internet service providers. According to Open-Xchange’s Thursday announcement, Scality has tightly integrated its RING object storage technology with the Open-Xchange email platform. Designed to specifically provide massively scalable email storage, Scality’s RING software is used by service providers and large enterprises, including Intergenia, ScaleUp, Dunkel and Host Europe.
“Scalable and reliable storage is one of the most pressing IT infrastructure problems Internet and SaaS providers have to face,” Open-Xchange chief executive officer Rafael Laguna said in a statement. “In close cooperation with Scality, we managed to clear the way for future growth of hosted email and groupware. This partnership is another valuable asset we can offer to our SaaS customers.”
Delivered as a software solution, Scality can be deployed by cable and telecom operators, or as a system to enable hosting providers or other storage-intensive services to grow their cloud storage services.
“Scality’s goal is to empower every leading email platform with the performance, ease of use and cost reduction of its storage technology,” Scality CEO Jerome Lecat stated. “We are thrilled to now have a tight integration with Open-Xchange which is one of the most successful platforms for hosting providers offering business-class email.”
Open-Xchange is used by more than 15 million users worldwide as hosted and on-premises business-class email and groupware via SaaS partners including 1&1 Internet, Network Solutions, Versatel, Dotster, and Hostpoint.
The partnership with Scality is the latest in a long line of Open-Xchange collaborations. Earlier this year, Open-Xchange agreed on comprehensive technical cooperation with German email security provider eleven (www.eleven.de) to add email security to all Open-Xchange products.
