Inside ScaleMatrix's new San Diego data center
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Cloud hosting and colocation provider ScaleMatrix (www.scalematrix.com) announced on Tuesday that it has opened a 50,000 square foot data center in San Diego, California. ScaleMatrix has access to 11 additional data centers throughout the country through a partnership with Forsythe (www.forsythe.com).
According to the press release, the facility will create more than a hundred new jobs in the region.
“As a newly constructed facility, we had the luxury of leveraging today’s data center hardware which is specifically designed for high-efficiency. While our competitors, in most cases, operate from decade old facilities, ScaleMatrix sets new benchmarks from both a density and overall efficiency standpoint,” Mark Ortenzi, CEO, said in a statement. “Innovations in cabinet design and thermal management have enabled us to provide the highest density, most efficient data center space in the region – while allowing customers to maximize their hosting investment and reducing their overall environmental impact.”
In an interview with HPC in the Cloud, Ortenzi said ScaleMatrix feels that it doesn’t have any competition in Southern California, though he admits the cost of power, labor and infrastructure is expensive in San Diego. However, he remains optimistic that there are a lot of technology and pharmaceutical organizations that require colocation services.
“We’ve fielded a lot of questions as to why we chose San Diego as the base of operations for ScaleMatrix. It’s simple really – with a thriving IT community to serve, best-in-class efficiency infrastructure helping manage power costs, and three San Diego natives at the helm of the organization, we couldn’t think of a better place. Being able to bring new jobs to the region and helping lower the impact data centers have on our environment doesn’t hurt either,” Bill Kraus, COO of ScaleMatrix said in a statement.
The new facility offers shared colocation space, partial private colocation cabinets, full private colocation cabinets and each full cabinet supports up to 20kW electrical load.
The data center grand opening event is scheduled for August 18, 2011, from 4 to 7 pm. To attend, register on the ScaleMatrix website.
