The LME will use SAVVIS to support its overall electronic trading and matching operations in its London headquarters and via 40 remotely located member firms.

SAVVIS will also provide connections to the London Clearing House and The LME?s disaster recover facilities, host its corporate Web site, and provide managed Internet services.

According to the companies, a key element in SAVVIS’ win of the contract was its ability to host LME’s total operations from its SAVVIS data center located in Reading, as well as its ability to demonstrate failsafe levels of network connectivity to over 40 member firms in the City of London.

“The London Metal Exchange is a unique institution and our networking requirements reflect that,” said Steve Mansfield, LME?s IT manager. “We needed a supplier that could provide a totally outsourced network solution, and do it in a way that supports LME’s many diverse roles and business requirements. We didn’t want a ‘one size fits all’ approach. SAVVIS met all our needs in a highly competitive environment.”

SAVVIS president and chief operating officer, Jack Finlayson emphasized the extremely high service levels that exchanges demand. “There is perhaps no area of business where managed networking services are as critical as they are in exchanges. The London Metal Exchange required a managed hosting and networking solution, supported by U.K.-based hosting centers, with industry-leading service level agreements. We are focused on our ability to meet these requirements and we look forward to serving the LME for many years to come.”
