(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Internet infrastructure services provider Savvis (www.savvis.net) announced on Tuesday it has named Mark Smith its new managing director for North Asia, which includes Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Korea and Japan.
The announcement follows board chair and interim CEO James E. Ousley’s appointment as the company’s CEO.
Based in Tokyo, Smith will be responsible for driving Savvis’ cloud offering and its IT infrastructure services across the region.
Smith will lead the Savvis team in support of the relationship with Thomson Reuters throughout all Asian markets, including opportunities related to the Thomson Reuters Hosting Solution.
Prior to joining Savvis, Smith served as president and as a senior company officer for Thomson Reuters in Tokyo.
He has also held senior global and regional roles at Reuters, Bridge Internet Solutions, Bridge Information Systems and Sungard, where he was responsible for expanding sales and services growth across Asia Pacific.
In a separate announcement, Savvis expanded its Symphony Open cloud infrastructure services to customers in Asia-Pacific through its Singapore data center later this month.
The expansion of its cloud infrastructure services is in response to the high client demand in Asia-Pacific.
Savvis Symphony Open will be the second cloud solution available from its Singapore data center, complementing the portfolio of managed and virtualized hosting and network services that Savvis currently offers to enterprises and the public sector in Singapore.
