Savvis Enhances Hosting for Retailers

By theWHIR.com , May 20, 2004

May 20, 2004 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Savvis Communications (savvis.net) announced on Tuesday the availability of Savvis Retail Avenue, a suite of IT solutions geared towards the retail industry. With the suite of solutions in place, Savvis provides retailers with solutions for management and protection of digital brand assets and enhancement of customer service capabilities. The company will also deliver e-commerce strategies, provide IT infrastructure utility solutions and assist in training and distance learning initiatives. Retail Avenue solutions are backed by guaranteed service levels and supported 24x7.

In conjunction with the launch of Retail Avenue, Savvis announced the extension of its partnership with Retex (retex.com), a retail technology buying consortium. Under the agreement, Savvis will be Retex's exclusive managed hosting provider and IP VPN provider to over 2,400 Retex retailers.

"We've been working with Savvis for more than a year and believe that Savvis' suite of services deliver the right mix of performance, security, and cost-effectiveness demanded by retailers," says Charles Presti, president of Retex. "With Retail Avenue, Savvis brings to market a wide-ranging set of solutions that will assist retailers of all shapes and sizes by driving bottom line results. The fact that these services are delivered on-demand, require no capital expenditure, and are fully managed by Savvis provides an answer to the problem that has long plagued the retail industry - how to take advantage of the benefits of technology without increasing operational costs."

Savvis currently serves over 400 customers in the retail industry.

"Hundreds of retailers including specialty retailers, food services companies, food and drug stores, and furniture and general retailers are using Savvis solutions to empower their businesses," says Rob McCormick, chairman and chief executive officer of Savvis. "Savvis Retail Avenue and our strong relationship with Retex further expands Savvis' ability to serve the retail sector and solidifies our position as a trusted IT partner for retailers."

October 2009 - Web Hosting's All Star Team
This has been, for us, one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging build-ups to an issue of the magazine yet, Web Hosting's All Star Team. The balloting process was our first experiment with a kind of user participation we're planning to do a lot more with in the months to come. We had thousands of ballots submitted, with hundreds of write-in suggestions and a demonstration of user engagement that has us feeling super positive about the project.

July 2009 - What am I Worth?
One of the interesting luxuries of working on a project like the printed WHIR magazine is that it allows us to play with things like our point of view from one issue to the next. In recent months we've been giving added attention to the kind of practical and applicable advice aimed at smaller hosts and resellers. This issue carries on with that point of view, asking, in our cover story, "what am I worth?" It's a complicated question without a clear-cut answer.

May 2009 - The Blueprint for a Small Web Host
I was a little surprised by how difficult it became to see this idea through. We set out to assemble a blueprint for a small hosting business, but butted up pretty quickly against the general impossibility of covering all the territory that was out there to be covered. The basic constraints of a printed magazine, and the less-than-infinite amount of time we had available forced us to face the fact that we could never produce an exhaustive guide to starting a hosting company.
