November 1, 2002 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Market research and consulting firm Sage Research (SageResearch.com) announced on Thursday that it has published the findings of the Sage Technology Roundtable, “Business Continuity Needs in the Enterprise,” which took place on October 21, 2002.

The session included participation by nine IT decision-makers and influencers, who discussed outsourcing of business continuity services, selection criteria for vendors and the was in which the September 11 terrorist attacks changed their business continuity strategies, among other issues.

“The most significant opportunity for business continuity vendors that came out of this Roundtable is the need to educate executives on the importance of planning business continuity in advance,” says Chris Neal, a research director at Sage Research. “As a group, our participants felt that they would not get approval for significant business continuity spending until after a disaster struck for which they were not prepared.”

Sage says the business continuity roundtable found, among other things, that: off-site backup files are standard, but “hot” backup sites are reserved for critical systems; use of third-party business continuity services is still limited; and experience, financial stability, and an understanding of the client?s business needs are the most important criteria in the selection of a continuity service provider.

The Sage Technology Roundtables is a monthly series of online focus groups involving qualified high-tech enterprise decision-makers and examining critical issues around a specific technology or service. The complete transcript of “Business Continuity Needs in the Enterprise” is available from the SageStore on the company?s Web site.
