March 9, 2005 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- According to reports, the lead singer for the rock band Limp Bizkit, Fred Durst, has filed suit against ten Web site operators, almost all Web hosting and Internet service providers, for allegedly hosting footage of him in a homemade sex tape.

The lawsuit, filed last week in US District Court in Los Angeles, seeks in excess of 70 million in damages. Durst alleges that the defendants invaded his privacy, misappropriated his name and likeness, and violated US copyright laws, among some of the charges. Before filing the lawsuit, Durst secured copyrights to the video.

According to reports, the defendants include Hurricane Electric, Peer 1 Network, ServInt Internet Services, The Planet Internet Services, TierraNet, Everyone's Internet, Verio, Gawker Media, Roadrunner Records, and an individual identified as Tyrone Norris of Capitol Heights, Maryland.

The footage, which shows Durst having sex with a former girlfriend, was reportedly stolen from Durst's hard drive. Several media reports say the perpetrators may have been the same people responsible for the recent hack of Paris Hilton's cellular phone.

Several media requests have been made to the defendants, but nearly all have declined comment. Hurricane Electric did say in one report that the video was not located on a server it owned, but on one operated by a third-party site, which has since removed the video. Gawker has reportedly pulled the video as well.
