The site appears to have been brought offline by a denial of service (DoS) attack. In late February, a variant of the MyDoom virus (MyDoom.F) began spreading, nearly a month after MyDoom first appeared. The virus was programmed to launch a denial of service (DoS) attack against the Web sites of Microsoft and the RIAA.

According to Netcraft, the latest incident is the second major outage to the RIAA Web site caused by a DoS attack. The RIAA site went down for four days in July 2002, Netcraft said.
