RIAA Site Offline, MyDoom.F Suspected

The site going offline appears to be the result of a denial of service (DoS) attack. In late February, a variant of the MyDoom virus (MyDoom.F) began spreading nearly a month after MyDoom first appeared. The virus was programmed to launch a denial of service (DoS) attack against the Web sites of Microsoft and the RIAA.

Netcraft cited numbers published by anti-virus vendors that estimate MyDoom.F to have infected approximately 45,000 machines.

According to reports, Microsoft’s Web site has not experienced any difficulties. At press time, the RIAA site remained offline.
