May 28, 2003 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — IBM (ibm.com) announced today that it had recently received positive reports regarding its hosting business from three separate research firms.
IBM is the leading Web hosting provider in the world, according to Tier 1 Research (tier1research.com), the leader in market share for managed services, according to META Group (metagroup.com), and was listed in the ?Leader? Quadrant in Gartner?s (gartner.com) North American Web Hosting Magic Quadrant.
The Tier 1 Research study entitled ?1Q03/4Q02 Complex Infrastructure PreReview? revealed that IBM?s overall share of the global Web hosting market rose to 17.2 percent in 2002. The study shows a commanding share of the market for IBM with Cable & Wireless second at 9.5 percent and EDS third at 7.4 percent. Tier 1 Research defines the Web hosting industry as being comprised of three segments: colocation, service-oriented managed infrastructure and volume-oriented managed infrastructure.
The META Group reported that IBM is the market share leader for fully managed hosting services. According to the report, ?IBM is well positioned in the market for fully managed hosting services, as measured in revenues.”
