October 6, 2003 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — According to various reports, an Internet broadcast of a concert by the band Hell on Earth that was to feature a live suicide of a terminally ill man did not take place as planned Saturday.
The concert and suicide were to take place at two separate and undisclosed locations in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Candid Hosting (candidhosting.com), which provides Web hosting services for the Hell on Earth Web site, reportedly shut down the site before the concert was scheduled to take place. Shawn Hughes, a technical supporter worker for Candid Hosting in Tampa, told the St. Petersburg Times that the site was shut down due to excessive traffic that the site could not handle. “The site was getting entirely too many hits and couldn’t keep up with it,” said Hughes.
The site was getting more than 800 hits per second, Hughes added, and was slowing connection to 36 other Web sites sharing the same equipment.
