(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — .PRO domain operator RegistryPro announced on Friday that it started its auction of premium, previously unreleased one, two and three character domain names on Tuesday. The auction is being held through Go Daddy and it will wrap up on Tuesday, January 17, 2012.
This announcement comes a few days after Go Daddy announced its mobile app has surpassed one million downloads.
The 7-day auction with bids starting at $50 includes names like 1.pro, Go.pro, 3D.pro and Job.pro.
“There has never been a better time to register .PRO domains and we are pleased to auction a sample of our most highly sought after names,” Karim Jiwani, president of RegistryPro said in a statement. “Everyone knows the value of a short domain name and we are happy to give the professional public the opportunity to bid on these great .PRO names.”
According to the press release, .PRO registrations are restricted to registrants with proof of professional identity. Because of this, .PRO domains are used by the professional community to verify their identity online. Registrants must submit specific contact and professional certification information, and once it is submitted, registrants are subject to random monitoring and sampling of credentials to maintain integrity of .PRO.
.PRO was launched in 2004, but RegistryPro launched .PRO 2.0 in November and says it has seen a significant rise in registration numbers since this launch. .PRO has had 22 consecutive months of growth, according to RegistryPro.
“Domain names are like 21st century real estate – it’s important to get your place on the Internet,” Paul Nicks, Go Daddy’s director of product development for the aftermarket said in a statement. “The .PRO auction will allow many professionals the chance for some prime Internet property.”
