January 13, 2009 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — IT infrastructure management solutions provider Raritan (www.raritan.co.uk) has expanded the functionality of its blade servers management hardware by introducing new software that allows data center blade and rack-mounted servers, including those from IBM, HP and Dell, to be efficiently managed through a single, easy-to-use interface.

According to the company’s Tuesday announcement, Raritan’s new software release for the Dominion KX II, its KVM-over-IP switch, presents a more complete view of the data center, showing all types of servers in a hierarchical display, and providing extensive server access options and a rich suite of management features.

Dominion KX II is unique in that it provides blade access and management without the use and expense of a separate management system. The KX II automatically discovers blades and provides quick local and remote access via a visual, browser-based user interface that is easy-to-use, unlike the confusing hot-key switching sequences provided by many blade manufacturers.

“The high market adoption of the Dominion KX is a testament to its unique and powerful server management capabilities, and its ability to support the evolving data center,” Raritan product management director Peter Suriani said in a statement. “It addresses today’s data center management issues arising from higher-density, virtualized, and lights-out operations.”

Suriani said that its power management capabilities also make Dominion KX II ideal for “green” IT initiatives. “The Dominion KX II helps IT teams manage more – servers, locations, technology platforms, applications – with fewer resources,” he said.

The Dominion KX II’s software also leverages the inherent security features in modern blade servers such as the 128-bit Advanced Encryption Standard, strong password support and built-in authentication capabilities.
