January 23, 2002 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — RapidStream, Inc. (rapidstream.com), a developer of
r
ASIC-based Virtual Private Networking and Firewall solutions, announced
r
yesterday a family of high-performance compact security appliances designed
r
to run Check Point Next Generation software from Check Point Software
r
Technologies Ltd (checkpoint.com). All appliances will be available in Q1, 2002.
r
r
The family of RapidStream “Secured by Check Point” appliances sets new
r
benchmarks in network security performance for Check Point VPN-1, a leading
r
security solution. It includes the RapidStream 11000, which delivers 1.2
r
Gbps Check Point VPN-1 throughput and 2.0 Gbps Check Point FireWall-1
r
throughput on a single appliance. Additional products within the “Secured by
r
Check Point” security appliance family are the RapidStream 8100 (300 Mbps
r
VPN-1/600Mbps FireWall-1), the RapidStream 6100 (160 Mbps VPN-1/270Mbps
r
FireWall-1) and the RapidStream 2100 (70 Mbps VPN-1/240Mbps FireWall-1).
r
RapidStream is poised to further exploit the capability of its technology
r
and introduce higher performance models to meet evolving market needs.
r
r
RapidStream is one of the first to deliver breakthrough VPN-1 performance on
r
a single appliance by leveraging the Check Point SecureXL performance
r
framework. The security decisions made by Check Point software running on
r
the main CPU are executed by one or more RapidCore chips, RapidStream’s
r
programmable security ASIC. RapidStream’s architecture allows customers to
r
linearly scale appliance performance to any level by adding additional
r
RapidCore ASICs. RapidCore ASICs perform parallel processing of VPN-1 and
r
FireWall-1 functions, Network Address translation, Denial of Service attack
r
protection, and Quality of Service functions by using the embedded four RISC
r
CPUS and embedded memory cache.
r
r
“With RapidStream’s architecture, the data path traffic ‘cuts through’ the
r
RapidCore processors and not the appliance’s central CPU, eliminating a
r
typical performance bottleneck: the system bus,” said Vince Liu, RapidStream
r
president and CEO. “The execution of Check Point Next Generation software on
r
the RapidStream platform matches network wire speeds so users are not
r
impeded by security measures, nor limited by the number of sessions that can
r
be supported. Productivity is enhanced and bandwidth purchased by the
r
organization is not wasted, improving the company’s return on investment .”
r
r
RapidStream “Secured by Check Point” security appliances deliver improved
r
network throughput in a compact package while supporting up to 600,000
r
sessions and up to 50,000 concurrent VPN tunnels. They are characterized by
r
low transmission latency, making them ideal for securing multimedia
r
communications, and the performance is unaffected by very large firewall
r
policy tables.
r
r
RapidStream “Secured by Check Point” appliances can be deployed as gateways
r
with an embedded management server or as enforcement points in
r
configurations managed centrally with Check Point’s Enterprise Management
r
Console, Site Manager-1 or Provider-1 management platforms. In particular,
r
they can be configured and managed using the new Check Point Visual Policy
r
Editor (VPE). VPE gives security managers a comprehensive picture of their
r
security deployment, allows direct edits on mapped objects and visually
r
illustrates the effect of security rules.
r
r
RapidStream “Secured by Check Point” appliances are available through Check
r
Point and RapidStream channel partners. The following U.S. list prices are
r
for the RapidStream hardware. Applicable Check Point software licenses can
r
be purchased at an additional cost:
r
r
RapidStream 2100 (US Dollars) $5,000, available for immediate delivery.
r
RapidStream 6100 (US Dollars) $15,000, available for immediate delivery.
r
RapidStream 8100 (US Dollars) $35,000, available in Feb. 2002.
r
RapidStream 11000 (US Dollars) $95,000, available in March 2002.
