Rackspace offers a range of hosted email offerings, including Hybrid Email, which offers Hosted Microsoft Exchange and Rackspace Email on a single domain.
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web host and cloud computing services provider Rackspace Hosting (www.rackspace.com) has reached a major milestone, surpassing two million paid users of its hosted email offerings, including its proprietary Rackspace Email, hosted Microsoft Exchange and a hybrid offering of the two services.
According to Rackspace’s announcement this week, this growth is the product of many things including the company’s reputation for helping businesses take advantage of a full portfolio of cloud offerings. The company also said that its email products can help customers save money, while still being able to use familiar features such as the use of Microsoft Outlook, email archiving and smartphone access. The services are also backed by Rackspace’s “Fanatical Support.”
Rackspace also cited its Rackspace Hybrid Email offering as a major factor in adoption. Since the major Rackspace Email 7.0 release in May 2009, Rackspace enhanced Rackspace Hybrid Email in June, offering users an enhanced mix of Hosted Microsoft Exchange features and the business-focused Rackspace Email platform all on a single domain.
“We wanted to take advantage of a business class cloud-based email system that many providers couldn’t offer,” said Kevin Durawa, who is responsible for IT at independent real estate company RealtyUSA.com (www.realtyusa.com). “Many of our users wanted the same user experience as Microsoft Outlook and access on mobile device.
By using Rackspace Email, Durawa said, his company can tailor solutions to clients given the ability “to mix traditional Web and POP/IMAP clients with exchange depending upon the needs of our users.” He also said the migration process of 2,200 in-house email accounts to Rackspace was seamless.
Hosted email is gaining traction in enterprises, according to Rackspace, as companies begin to realize they no longer have to hassle with managing their own email servers, and would rather focus their IT time and resources on business innovation.
Rackspace’s strong reseller program and partner community has also helped bolster the number of hosted email mailboxes. These Rackspace resellers, such as website management firm Parker Web Services (www.parkerweb.com), in turn, are given a competitive advantage over other service providers.
“Cloud-based email is doing extremely well, we are hearing more and more from our partners and resellers that the enterprise and SMBs alike are turning to cloud-based email, and especially offerings like Rackspace’s Hybrid Email, for their email needs,” Parker Web Services founder Darryl Parker stated.
Rackspace has also invested in learning about its email users. In August, the company released a study based on its US business email users, which found that those in the Mid-West were most likely to send emails during typical working hours. It also found that users on the West coast are more likely to send emails from 6 to 8 am – likely to deal with the time change. Perhaps affirming popular workaholic stereotypes, email use in the North East was steady throughout all hours of the day.
