Rackspace Interests Investors with Cloud Strategy

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — A relatively small upstart competing with IT heavy-weights such as Amazon, IBM, Google, and Microsoft, which have all launched cloud services, San Antonio-based Rackspace Hosting (www.rackspace.com) is turning heads in the investment community because of its customer support focus.

Having “carved out a niche in managed hosting,” Rackspace was the subject of an Investors.com profile that praises Rackspace’s “fanatical” customer service, which permeates every level of the company.”If you’re going to be a company that differentiates on service, you really have to be all in,” chief strategy officer and newly appointed cloud business president Lew Moorman told Investors.com.

Further building its reputation, Rackspace was at the 2009 Internet Retailer Conference and Expo, where it showcased its hosting solutions, as well as a partnership with open-source e-commerce platform provider Magento (www.magentocommerce.com), which attended the Boston event to demonstrate how Rackspace provides secure and scalable hosting to Magento’s enterprise customers.

“Magento backed by Rackspace Fanatical Support is a great option for any online business,” Magento chief executive officer Roy Rubin said in a statement. “The most important aspects of an e-commerce company’s hosting environment are security, scalability, support and uptime. Rackspace is the leading option in the market with proven success hosting the world’s largest brands, and can meet the high demands of the Magento Enterprise customers with a professional, world-class environment.”

Rackspace also backs up its customer service with innovations. In March, Rackspace’s cloud division, Mosso (www.mosso.com) worked with online Excel template provider The Spreadsheet Store (www.spreadsheetstore.com) to help its Mosso Cloud Sites deployment become the very first cloud hosting solution to pass both McAfee’s PCI and Secure Site compliance scans for the payment card industry’s data security requirements.
