Web hosting and cloud hosting provider Rackspace Hosting announced it has launched its new Rackspace managed virtualization service, Dedicated VMware vCenter Server, that will provide managed support for single-tenant VMware vCenter Servers.
The new offering comes just a few weeks after Rackspace began offering a complementary Cloud Migration Service, which enables users to migrate their dedicated, virtualized or cloud server to the Rackspace Hybrid Cloud, along with a free Rackspace Cloud Assessment tool to help businesses decide what their cloud and technology needs to help them effectively migrate to Windows Server 2012.
Using Dedicated VMware vCenter Server, enterprise customers are able to move existing VMware workloads out of their on-premise data center into a Rackspace data center. In addition, they can continue to use their existing tools.
Rackspace’s new service helps enterprises to speed up the migration process to hybrid cloud computing, and is supported by Rackspace’s “fanatical support”.
The Rackspace hosted VMware environment serves as extension of the customer’s own data center by benefiting from the same vCenter APIs used by their existing tools.
The customer is able to retain full control and management capabilities by using dedicated vCenter Servers, vCenter APIs, compatible third-party tools, and their existing service catalogs, orchestration platforms and portals.
Customers are able to use their existing orchestration tools to provision virtual machines, while providing visibility into costs and usage through a single user interface.
“This new service has been designed to enable customers to migrate workloads out of their data center and into a Rackspace data center. This allows Rackspace to do what we do best, which is providing a fully managed hybrid cloud hosting service backed by Fanatical Support with maximum uptime,” said John Engates, CTO at Rackspace. “Utilizing Rackspace’s hybrid cloud portfolio gives customers the choice to find the best fit for their applications and workloads, all while offloading data center management so that they can focus on their core business.”
Rackspace provides customers with complete flexibility in its selection of hybrid hosting services, including bare-metal dedicated servers, servers virtualized by VMware, and both public and private cloud services powered by OpenStack.
