(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Known as the go-to analyst for the hosting industry since its inception in the late 90′s, Andy Schroepfer changed direction, accepting a position as vice president of strategy for web hosting provider Rackspace (www.rackspace.com).
As strategy VP, according to the Rackspace blog, Schroepfer will be pursuing his vision of the “All Cloud Enterprise,” a business that uses the most efficient hosting platform for their custom apps, and Software-as-a-Service applications for the rest. He wants Rackspace to help businesses more quickly see and act upon the reality that computing is not about servers, but about service.
Schroepfer began his career as an analyst at Piper Jaffray (www.piperjaffray.com), covering fiber network service providers such as Level 3, Global Crossing and Exodus. He then led coverage of the hosting industry at Goldman Sachs, where he became the company’s youngest VP. In late 2000, Schroepfer founded, and later sold, Tier 1 Research (www.t1r.com), the leading specialist research firm on the hosting and data center industry. The WHIR has interviewed Schroepfer several times over the years.
Snaring such a high profile analyst helps validate Rackspace as a place where top industry personalities want to work due because of its attractive corporate culture. Rackspace posted a YouTube video of Schroepfer explaining why he decided to join Rackspace. Earlier this year, popular blogger (www.scobleizer.com), technology evangelist and co-author of Naked Conversations: How Blogs are Changing the Way Businesses Talk with Customers, Robert Scoble, joined Rackspace.
