Rackspace Cloud Signs Encoding.com as a Customer

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — The Rackspace Cloud, the cloud computing division of Rackspace Hosting (www.rackspace.com) announced on Tuesday that Web-based video encoding provider Encoding.com (www.encoding.com) now relies on Cloud Servers, Rackspace’s enterprise-class IaaS offering.

Powered by Cloud Servers, Encoding.com says it expects to increase its average delivery speed of studio-quality video encoding services to its users by 200 percent without incurring more hosting costs.

Rackspace’s Cloud Servers will help support Encoding.com’s rapidly growing computing and hosting needs.

Launched in September 2008, Encoding.com was one of the first companies to introduce a cloud-based, software as a service solution for video encoding.

The company says it has encoded more than 3.5 million videos to date including a recent peak of 100,000 videos in just one weekend.

Encoding.com’s customers include MTV Networks, CarDomain and Brightcove.

In addition to the specific amount of guaranteed CPU power included with each Cloud Server, customers are able to take advantage of extra processing power for no additional cost when the host machines are below their peak load.

This CPU bursting capability of Cloud Servers provides faster service for Encoding.com customers, as well as reduces computing costs because of its ability to consume more processing power during peak times without incurring an additional fee.

Rackspace recently commissioned technology research lab The Bitsource to conduct a study, which analyzed the disk and CPU efficiency of the two leading IaaS cloud computing platforms.

The results of the study highlight benefits of using Cloud Servers from The Rackspace Cloud, said Rackspace.

The performance, ease of use, and reliability of The Rackspace Cloud helps Encoding.com to meet its SLA commitments.

“A broad range of companies – from innovative start-ups like Encoding.com to large enterprises – are choosing The Rackspace Cloud because of our comprehensive, worry-free approach to cloud computing so that customers can focus on what they do best,” says Emil Sayegh, general manager of The Rackspace Cloud. “We take great care to help our customers with their total hosting experience which starts with our human touch known as Fanatical Support, and extends to optimal system performance, uptime, and ease of use.”
