(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Cloud computing equipment provider Rackable Systems (www.rackable.com) is shifting its focus onto the UK and northern Europe market, as the company looks to increase its market share in Europe, according to a report on TechWorld.
Rackable is targeting the UK and the Nordics markets instead of tackling all the major markets in Europe at once, in a strategic move to not spread itself out too thin.
The company recently named Rod Evan as the company’s vice president and managing director, and will open a UK office in late April.
Rackable is currently the fourth largest provider of x86 compute in North America, says George Skaff, VP of marketing at Rackable.
The company offers server racks that are customizable and built-to-order, which provide greater power and cooling efficiencies.
And while Rackable has been operating in Europe since 2006 with about 12,000 to 13,000 servers installed in the area, only 8 percent of the company’s total revenues can be attributed to international sales.
Meanwhile, the North American cloud market continues to gain more momentum, as major players like Sun, Dell, Cisco, and IBM are all vying for the top spot.
IBM is currently in talks to acquire Sun Microsystems, while Cisco recently introduced a set of new data center products for its Unified Computing System.
