April 28, 2006 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center products provider Rackable Systems (rackable.com) announced on Friday it is one of the founding sponsors of The Green Grid (thegreengrid.org), a non-profit, global organization focused on reducing growing power and cooling demands in data centers worldwide.

The Green Grid strives to decrease data center and other IT facility energy usage patterns by defining and promoting best practices in data center operation, construction and design. The organization?s other founding sponsors include AMD, Egenera, HP, IBM, and Sun Microsystems

Supported by the Environmental Protection Agency and Alliance to Save Energy, The Green Grid is intended to serve as an interactive resource for IT professionals. The forum hopes to share proven practices in data center energy management as well as work with other organizations to identify new industry-standards and metrics related to energy.

“Thermal efficiency and reduced power consumption have been a key focus for Rackable Systems since our company’s inception,” says Tom Barton, CEO of Rackable Systems. “As a pioneer in designing and developing energy efficient servers and storage, we are excited by the opportunity to further contribute to the industry by helping to direct the efforts of The Green Grid.”

The Green Grid’s launch was announced earlier in the week by AMD.
