August 26, 2002 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Server manufacturer Dell (Dell.com) said on Monday that it is moving aggressively into the enterprise Web hosting hardware space with the signing of a new agreement to provide PowerEdge servers and PowerVault storage to Web hosting provider Rackspace Managed Hosting (Rackspace.com).
Dell says that Rackspace, which currently has more than 6,000 servers under management, picked Dell hardware for its growing base of enterprise customers after comparing PowerEdge servers with Compaq/HP servers.
"Although the hosting industry has been standardized on HP/Compaq, we conducted an extensive test of Dell hardware against its competitors. Dell was the clear winner in performance, innovative design and value," says Morris Miller, co-chairman and managing director, Rackspace Managed Hosting. "We were pleasantly surprised to find that Dell?s servers and storage products are technically superior. Dell?s direct sales process and excellent value are just added benefits to working with them."
According to the terms of the multi-million-dollar agreement, Rackspace will receive early access to Dell technology, enterprise training and product support. Rackspace, says Dell, has recently deployed millions of dollars worth of Web hosting services on PowerEdge servers across its data centers.
Dell says both Rackspace and its Intensive Hosting division use PowerEdge 2650 and 6650 servers as well as PowerVault NAS and DAS storage solutions.
