Q&A: Siki Giunta, CSC VP on Cloud Computing

Siki Giunta, vice president of cloud computing and software services at CSC.

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Just a year ago, CSC joined one of the most competitive markets in IT with the launch of its cloud services division.

In the past 12 months, the company has signed many high-profile client contracts including the City of Los Angeles and Royal Mail.

Under the leadership of new vice president of cloud computing and software services, Siki Giunta, CSC is preparing to launch a new range of cloud products later this year.

The company will launch three new cloud products, as well as the cloud infrastructure to support these products with the opening of data centers in the US, Europe and Australia.

In an email interview with the WHIR, Giunta discusses her plans for the company’s cloud services division, its product roadmap and its overall cloud computing vision.

WHIR: How have CSC’s cloud services been received since they first launched?

Siki Giunta: CSC already has more than 100,000 cloud users that know and trust us as a preferred supplier, and we’re expecting that number to grow extensively by the end of the year.

WHIR: What are some of the new cloud services and products CSC will be launching this year?

SG: Beginning June 14, we will begin an aggressive foray into the cloud solutions marketplace by announcing several CSC-labeled products to our Trusted Cloud Services portfolio. Our initial offerings include CloudLab, a virtual testing and development environment; CloudExchange, an email and collaboration solution that features Microsoft Exchange 2010 as a service; and CSC Gateway, and intuitive e-commerce portal for purchasing hosting and cloud services from CSC. To support these offerings and serve clients across the globe, seven cloud-enabled data centers located in the US, Europe and Australia will also go online. More CSC cloud solutions are planned for later in 2010, including a virtual desktop and a security solution for mail and web.

WHIR: What is your vision for CSC’s cloud computing strategy?

SG: CSC takes what we like to call a “Business First Approach” to bringing clients to the cloud. We rigorously evaluate each of their business processes through an established set of tests and standards, and then pinpoint the ideal workloads for them to move to the cloud. We have found that this process generates the absolute greatest ROI for our clients’ business. Also, as a leader in cyber security and healthcare IT, we see our cloud offerings becoming hugely beneficial to highly regulated industries like healthcare and financial service where security is paramount.

WHIR: With so many competitors in the cloud computing market today, how will CSC continue to differentiate itself?

SG: Our business first approach and proven credentials in SaaS enablement are unique differentiators for CSC in the managed and cloud services market. Of course, as with any interaction with CSC, our pedigree of technology independence and our solid credentials for orchestrating complex technology integrations is a capability we always bring to the table for our clients. We bring the best of CSC to our customers; we are a trusted advisor, we have extensive application experience, outstanding delivery and complete life cycle of support.

WHIR: Who are some of the other cloud customers you have signed in the past year?

Siki Giunta:  CSC currently has more than 100,000 cloud users that know and trust us as a preferred supplier, and in the past year alone the City of Los Angeles and the UK’s Royal Mail have trusted CSC to take their business to the cloud.
