In advance of Parallels Summit 2010, we’re contacting some of the speakers presenting at the event and asking them about the content of their sessions in an effort to give readers a sense of what to expect from the event, and help them decide which sessions they would most benefit from attending.
Now in its fifth year, the Parallels Summit event has always featured presentations delivered by executives from some of the largest companies in the industry.
Through a range of presentations, the Summit instructs participants on how to use Parallels technology to deploy new cloud Services, develop strategies to improve and extend the value of their services to the market, and develop new up-sell and cross-sell strategies that drive more revenue.
One of Parallels Summit 2010′s most anticipated presentations comes from Lance Crosby, CEO of SoftLayer. Rather than delivering a set presentation with a specific focus, Crosby’s “Profit from the Cloud” presentation will specifically address important questions asked by those in the industry while providing some insight into creating and building a high growth hosting company.
Through this interactive approach, which is the first presentation of its kind in Parallels Summit history, Crosby is inviting the industry to submit questions or viewpoints for consideration prior to the event.
In an email interview with the WHIR, SoftLayer CEO Lance Crosb discusses his interactive presentation “Profit from the Cloud” at the upcoming Parallels Summit 2010, which will take place from February 22 to 24 in Miami.
The WHIR: We hear you are doing something different and exciting for your presentation at the Parallels Summit 2010. Can you tell us a bit about it?
Lance Crosby: At this year’s Parallels Summit we are trying an exciting new format to get the audience involved and provide dynamic feedback to the real concerns and questions of those in the industry. The audience will be able to submit questions through various social media including LinkedIn, Twitter, and via email.
What made you decide to deliver your presentation in this type of format?
LC: We decided to use this format in the presentation to more effectively address questions and provide the most useful possible feedback. Traditional presentation methods allow for a one-way flow of information. We feel by giving the audience the ability to participate we can more specifically address the real issues emerging companies are facing.
How can participants submit their questions or viewpoints for consideration to be addressed in the presentation?
LC: There are several avenues through which participants can submit questions. We will be utilizing social media to provide a comprehensive forum for the collation of questions, it is proposed that people send them through a range of mediums, including The WHIR in the comments section below, LinkedIN on the Parallels Summit 2010 group, Twitter @ParallelsSummit, and email at summit_questions@parallels.com.
With this kind of open-ended, interactive approach, how will you be able to maintain focus within the presentation? What sort of challenges do you anticipate will arise as a result of this format?
LC: We don’t view this as a challenge but rather an opportunity to tap into the pulse of the community. Participants will be able to bring up direct, applicable concerns that might not be addressed in more traditional, one-way presentation.
What kinds of issues do you anticipate that attendees will want to discuss?
LC: We anticipate a broad range of industry issues-from early growth stages to more technical development and growth concerns. Building a sustainable hosting business with strong growth proposes a number of challenges from both the technical and business development perspectives. We hope to be able to address concerns with answers that utilize the most up to date technical solutions and best practice business methodologies.
