(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — HostingCon wraps up Wednesday in Austin, with the sessions concluding at approximately 5:00 p.m.
While the program has leaned heavily toward information around cloud computing, much of the discussion has leaned toward theorizing and strategy.
In one of the last sessions of the conference, Jason Silverglate, CEO of Fortress ITX (www.fortressitx.com) and DedicatedNow (www.dedicatednow.com) says he’ll take hosting providers and developers into the building blocks of the cloud, discussing in detail the issues involved and designing and building cloud architecture.
In an email Q&A with the WHIR, Silverglate details some of the material he intends to cover in his session, and promises “one of the few truly educational sessions at HostingCon.”
His session, “The Anatomy of a Cloud,” runs Wednesday from 4:00 to 4:45 p.m.
WHIR: The program describes your session, “The Anatomy of a Cloud,” as being focused on how developers can get the most out of using cloud infrastructure. Is there a particular portion of the HostingCon audience the presentation is best suited to?
Jason Silverglate: The anatomy of the cloud is to show hosting providers and developers how to build and deploy a cloud and what to look for in clouds they are considering.
WHIR: You’re giving one of quite a few cloud-related presentations at this year’s event. Is there a particular point of view, or point of emphasis you think ought to attract attendees to your presentation?
JS: I think we are giving the only real cloud presentation that truly addresses what a cloud is from an infrastructure point of view and what makes one cloud different from another. This will be one of the few truly educational sessions at HostingCon.
WHIR: Let’s talk specifically about the content of the session. Is there a particular cloud infrastructure product you’re going to be discussing? On what aspects of its architecture are you going to focus?
JS: This session is going to be purely educational about what goes into a cloud from hardware, networking, storage, hypervisor and software perspective. Essentially if you are looking to build a cloud or use a cloud this is a must see session to really understand and compare the true inner workings of a cloud.
WHIR: What is it important for developers to understand about cloud infrastructure?
JS: Developers need to understand not all clouds are created equal, and not all clouds will meet your needs. This session will help them determine the right questions to ask cloud vendors before making a decision.
