September 30, 2004 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider Q9 Networks (q9.com) announced on Wednesday that it will open its Brampton, Ontario data center facility to meet demand from a new five-year contract to provide Internet infrastructure and managed services to an unidentified “major new customer,” and other clients.

The new contract, says Q9, is worth approximately $13 million Canadian over the term. The customer will also pay Q9 a variable fee based on its use of power and cooling resources.

Q9 says the Brampton data center will be fully operational by the end of January 2005, and it expects the facility to be cash flow positive during the second quarter of that year.

After filling the requirements of the new contract, Q9 expects to have the equivalent of about 700 cabinets available in the facility. This, along with the recent expansion of Q9′s downtown Toronto data center, will significantly increase the company’s capacity in the Greater Toronto Area.

“Today’s announcement demonstrates that Q9 has the right mix of assets, services, and personnel to meet the most demanding infrastructure requirements,” says Q9 Networks CEO, Osama Arafat. “We have managed to attract a major new customer while bringing a large facility online that will be cash flow positive in short order. The Brampton facility is a world class data centre that we expect will serve a growing need for disaster recovery and business continuity applications.”
