February 6, 2007 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Canadian data center operator and Web hosting provider Q9 Networks (q9.com) announced on Monday it has opened a new data center facility in Toronto, Ontario.
The $20 million facility, which has a capacity of 1,000 cabinet equivalents, is the first of three major expansion projects to open.
The other projects include a second data center in Calgary, Alberta and an expansion of the existing Brampton, Ontario data center. Q9 says these expansions will establish the company as one of the largest operators of data center facilities in Canada with a projected total capacity in excess of 7,500 cabinet equivalents. Q9 is expecting to invest a total of approximately $65 million in the new facilities.
“I am delighted to be announcing this key milestone as we successfully execute our rapid expansion strategy,” says Osama Arafat, CEO of Q9. “With this opening, we are able to meet continued strong demand in the Toronto area and further consolidate our leadership position in the data center infrastructure services market. The new facility more than doubles our capacity in Toronto and provides a strong platform on which to continue building our business.”
