September 22, 2004 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting and colocation provider Q9 Networks (q9.com) announced on Wednesday that it has expanded its downtown Toronto data center, adding the equivalent of approximately 300 cabinets and enabling the company to meet the continued strong demand from customers with critical data and Internet applications.

Q9 says it opened its original downtown Toronto data center in October of 2000, establishing one of the most secure and reliable facilities in Canada and attracting the business of some of the country’s most well known firms, including Fairmont Hotels, Indigo Books & Music and TD Securities. Less than four years after its launch, says Q9, the original facility is nearing capacity.

The expanded facility will provide the same set of standard and custom Q9 services, including physical space, bandwidth and managed products designed to address network security, data storage and disaster recovery needs. Customers of the new facility will also connect to the Internet through Q9′s unique network, and are covered by the company’s 100 percent uptime guarantees for power and network availability.

“Q9 reaches an important milestone today with this announcement,” says Osama Arafat, CEO of Q9 Networks. “This expansion has allowed us to add capacity in the downtown core where demand continues to be strong for Q9′s services. By leveraging some of the existing infrastructure of our Toronto data center, we’ve been able to keep operational cost increases to a minimum. I’m also pleased to report that the new expansion, which was completed on schedule, is already generating revenue for the company.”
