Phoenix NAP Opens 160K Square Foot Data Center

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center operator Phoenix NAP (www.phoenixnap.com) announced on Friday it has opened its 160,000 square foot facility.

The data center, which began construction last June, opens with about 15 percent of its 45,000 square foot first phase occupied by customers, says Ian McClarty, president of Phoenix NAP.

Plans call for two 45,000 square foot data halls for a total of 90,000 square feet of raised-floor space.

PureWave UPS systems from S&C Electric supports the data center, which will allow PhoenixNAP to make the most of the building’s data center space.

McClarty said many of the initial customers it has signed up are enterprises and businesses from the Phoenix area, however, the company is also seeing interest from businesses in Southern California.

“It’s all over the place. We were targeting small businesses initially, but we have a good mix of small enterprise, enterprise, small businesses,” says McClarty. “There really doesn’t seem too much rhyme or reason to it. It’s definitely business-centric, it’s not government yet.”

The facility offers connectivity via Cox Business, tw telecom, Internap, AboveNet, Level 3 and AGL Networks.

The data center, which is the former headquarters for life sciences company EaglePicher, was developed by Global Datacenter Trust.

The facility features 90,000 square feet of colocation space that can deliver 200 watts of power per square foot or more to racks.

Phoenix NAP incorporates several designs to optimize uptime, including a 2N capable power system and a bi-directional closed water loop.

Phoenix NAP is a PCI DSS validated services provider and a carrier neutral data center. It is a SAS 70 Type I certified facility, and the company says it expects to apply for its Type II certification after six months of operation.
