Phoenix NAP Offers Virtual Data Center Tour

A preview of Phoenix NAP's interactive data center tour.

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center operator Phoenix NAP (www.phoenixnap.com) announced on Friday it has launched Phoenix NAP Interactive, a new interactive tool designed to showcase the layout, design, and operational features of its data center.

Users can access the interactive tour through a Web interface, which allows them to view a 3D representation of the data center.

The data center tour offers a look at Phoenix NAP’s fiber trenches, mechanical and electrical distribution equipment, security systems, and room layouts.

Co-developed by GSD Software and Phoenix NAP, the interactive data center tour can be viewed here.

Breaking ground in June, the 160,000-square-foot data center opened late last year. Jordan Jacobs, director of operations at Phoenix NAP, recently discussed the facility’s design in an interview with WHIR TV.

“One of the things we wanted to do was really showcase our designs and functional layout to any potential clients or interested individuals, while being mindful of travel costs,” says Jordan Jacobs, director of operations for Phoenix NAP. “Not everyone can jump on a plane to Arizona for an initial tour, and with Phoenix NAP Interactive, they don’t have to.”

After initiating the tour, visitors can select the level of interactivity they want to experience.

A self-guided mode automatically moves users through the facility, an exploration mode lets users take control and move an avatar throughout the data center, and a meeting mode allows for Phoenix NAP representatives to join visitors in the 3D application to answer questions and serve as a tour guide.
