August 23, 2007 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Security on-demand provider Perimeter eSecurity (perimeterusa.com) announced on Thursday it has formed a business combination with e-messaging services provider USA.NET (usa.net). The company also announced that Goldman Sachs has followed-up its initial investment of $50 million from two weeks ago by providing equity financing along with Bessemer Ventures and the Stripes Group.
“For many years businesses needed huge IT departments to assess, integrate, and continually monitor security appliances, but network and email hygiene can no longer be a luxury exclusive to the largest corporations,” says David Cowan, managing partner of Bessemer Venture Partners, who will take up a position on Perimeter’s board. “So, Bessemer resolved to partner with the most business-friendly, state-of-the-art security and hosted business e-messaging companies that can deliver a soup-to-nuts service.”
Cowan has a strong reputation for successful IT security funding, having been involved in the financing of security software-as-a-service company Postini, as well as Cyota, Counterpane, Lifelock and VeriSign, which he co-founded.
USA.NET offers a fully integrated suite of secure hosted messaging services including its Hosted Microsoft Exchange and commercial messaging solution platforms. The company also offers a suite of enhanced services including anti-virus/anti-spam, content filtering, encrypted email, email archiving, unified messaging and mobility solutions.
Perimeter eSecurity announced last month it was named by the CMP Channel’s CRN as a 2007 Fast Growth 100 Solution Provider.
