(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Dedicated hosting provider ServerBeach has announced the availability of its hosting services in Canada, marking the first time parent company PEER 1 Hosting (www.peer1.com) will be providing all three hosting services — managed hosting, dedicated hosting and colocation — in Canada.
According to its Wednesday announcement, ServerBeach’s Canadian dedicated hosting is now available for purchase worldwide and will be housed in Toronto at PEER 1 Hosting’s newly built flagship $40 million data center. Vancouver-based PEER 1 Hosting acquired ServerBeach in 2004 to help expand its capacity to assist start-ups and small businesses around the world.
“We understand geographic location is an important factor for our customers when choosing where to house information,” ServerBeach business development senior vice president Robert Miggins said in a statement. “We are committed to servicing our fellow geeks to the highest degree and are thrilled to be able to offer a full suite of services in Canada to support them, North and South of the border, as they grow.”
ServerBeach offers dedicated hosting in five locations worldwide including Herndon, Los Angeles, London, San Antonio, and now Toronto. It has more than 10,000 servers and is built on the PEER 1 Hosting network with 17 data centers throughout North America and Europe.
With increased power densities, high reliability and robust security, PEER 1 Hosting’s new 41,000 square-foot data center is the most efficient data center the company has built to date.
“While, in theory, hosting is a borderless business; in practice, geography is very much a relevant factor,” Tier1 Research hosting senior analyst Philbert Shih said in a statement. “When it comes to choosing a hosting provider, where the data center is located is a key part of a potential customer’s decision-making process.”
Shih noted that legal and regulatory issues play a large role, but also culture and language, and other, less tenable, factors. “There is also a comfort and convenience factor when it comes to where IT infrastructure is hosted, and distance to and from a data center impacts performance and latency,” Shih continued. “Hosters that set up operations in multiple geographies and legal jurisdictions have a value propostion that will open the door to a wider range of opportunities.”
In recognition of the new market, ServerBeach and PEER 1 Hosting are giving new customers limited edition jerseys with either the PEER 1 Hosting or the ServerBeach logo from July 14 to the end of Summer 2010.
