(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hossting provider Peer 1 Hosting (www.peer1.com) announced on Wednesday it has successfully completed two independent audits of SAS70 Type II and CICA 5970.
The move follows Peer 1′s recent partnership announcement with VMware, in which the hosting provider joined the VMware Service Provider Program to offer customers private cloud solutions.
The audits examined selected controls, processes and procedures in compliance with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ Statement on Auditing Standards No. 70 for service organizations and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants Section 5970 for the period from January 1, 2010 through June 30, 2010.
SAS70 Type II and CICA 5970 audits offer strict benchmarks for service organizations, requiring e a thorough audit of the internal controls of the service organization by a licensed independent auditor.
The audit reports are intended to provide Peer 1 Hosting’s customer organizations and their auditors with information that will help them to better understand those aspects of Peer 1 Hosting’s controls that may be relevant to their internal controls over financial reporting and thereby aid in assessments of business risk for customer organizations.
A Type II report includes the service organization’s description of existing controls, as well as detailed testing regarding the design and operating effectiveness of the company’s controls.
The reports, when combined with an understanding of the controls in place at customer organizations, can help to reach a deeper understanding of Peer 1 Hosting general computer controls.
Areas covered include corporate strategic planning and organization, manage human resources, manage operations and monitoring, manage changes, manage performance and capacity, ensure system security, manage the configuration, manage problems and incidents, manage data and backups, and manage facilities.
