Peak 10 Opens Third Data Center on Charlotte Campus

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Increasing its capacity for virtual and cloud-based services, data center operator and managed services provider Peak 10 (www.peak10.com) has opened its third enterprise-class data center on its Charlotte campus, providing additional raised floor space, increasing the Charlotte campus footprint to nearly 70,000 square feet in total.

According to Peak 10′s Friday announcement, it began work on this facility in the first quarter of 2009 as the second Charlotte facility was on track to reach capacity. Its addition, Peak 10 said, was necessary to meet the increasing new customer demand for Peak 10′s data center and managed services solutions.

“The continued investment in our infrastructure is the direct result of the steady growth of our local and national customer base,” Peak 10 Charlotte vice president and general manager Pat O’Brien said in a statement. “As we have expanded our solutions and customer reach, Charlotte’s growth has been a consistent leader for the company over the past eight years. Our Peak 10 team is excited about this expansion, as it allows us to deliver managed IT and data center solutions to even more area businesses and sets high standards of technology services leadership.”

The multi-million dollar project was managed by R.T. Dooley (www.rtdooley.com), one of the leading and most respected contractors in the Carolinas and nationally. Peak 10 also implemented a rigorous commissioning process, having the facility undergo tests by engineering firm PTS Consulting Group (www.ptsconsulting.com) ensuring its integrity and operational stability, according to Peak 10 senior facility manager Ray Caponi. “The new Charlotte data center builds upon Peak 10′s proven expertise in infrastructure design and operation of enterprise-class data centers.”

The facility includes state-of-the-art control systems, around-the-clock onsite support and authorized customer access, tiered physical security, robust private meshed network, and redundant power and cooling.

Peak 10 president and chief executive officer David Jones said the new facility will help the company continue its consistent, organic growth as a trusted and scalable infrastructure partner. “The expansion of our third-generation Charlotte data center, our 16th facility, assures businesses that the most current infrastructure and systems continue to evolve and are accessible at Peak 10,” Jones said in a statement. “With this addition we continue our ability to scale with growth of our investment in technology, engineering and virtual services to support the advancement of our cloud-based solutions in addition to Peak 10′s other core services and support.”

Peak 10 offers a wide range of technology services including virtualization, full service hosting, and cloud-based services from data centers in nine key markets including Cincinnati, Atlanta, Raleigh, Charlotte, Tampa, Jacksonville, Nashville, Louisville, and Richmond.

Peak 10, a privately held firm, was the subject of some attention last week, when Frontier Capital’s stake in Peak 10 was bought by private equity firm McCarthy Capital (www.mccarthygroup.com). Seaport Capital (www.seaportcapital.com), however, continues to be Peak 10′s majority shareholder.
