(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Managed hosting provider Peak 10 (www.peak10.com) announced on Thursday that it has launched its new VirtualDR service, providing a virtualized disaster recovery solution involving multiple data centers.

According to the press release, the new product takes a “software-based approach to replication” delivering full, differential or hybrid backups of either colocated servers or virtual machines, onto dissimilar hardware in geographically separate facilities.

One of the keys to the VirtualDR service, says Peak 10, is its reduction of some of the complexity and up-front cost associated with more traditional high-availability and disaster recovery solutions.

“VirtualDR is another example of how Peak 10 continues to develop its robust IT solutions by leveraging the latest technologies available to meet the need for more cost-effective disaster recovery solutions,” says Monty Blight, vice president of managed services for Peak 10, quoted in the announcement. “With the increased scrutiny on capital expenditures and executives increasing their focus on the bottom line, companies seeking to enhance their business continuity practices can now do more with less costs using Peak 10’s VirtualDR.”

More information about the VirtualDR service is available on the product’s information page at the Peak 10 website.

Peak 10 says its virtualization team is comprised of experts who stay abreast of advancing virtualization technology, and look for ways to build it into the company’s products.

In late March, the company announced that it had opened a new 15,400 square-foot data center in Tampa, Florida, bringing the company’s total footprint in the city to more than 30,000 square feet.
