Peak 10 Adds Second Data Center in Atlanta

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Managed services provider Peak 10 (www.peak10.com) announced on Friday it has more than doubled its data center capacity in metro Atlanta with its second 10,000-square-feet data center in Norcross, Georgia.

The news of the new data center follows Peak 10′s $95 million credit facility expansion led by RBC Capital Markets, in order to accelerate its expansion plans and finance the development in its high-growth metropolitan markets.

Though Peak 10 did not disclose the exact cost of the expansion, the project is estimated to fall between $5 million and $10 million.

Peak 10 vice president and general manager Matt Searfoss said the company’s planned expansion is needed in order to accommodate the demand, adding that the company’s existing data center is at about 60 percent to 70 percent capacity.

“Our facility expansion is a direct result of our steady growth and success in the greater Atlanta region since opening in 2008, and will allow us meet the current and future demand for our customized IT services,” says Searfoss. “The second Atlanta data center brings cutting-edge facility technologies into play, including engineering designs that take advantage of energy efficiencies available to us.”

As with all Peak 10 facilities which meet enterprise-class standards, the new Atlanta data center will be designed with multiple levels of security, uninterruptible power, cooling systems, fire suppression and 24-hour monitoring and management.

The data center is SAS70 Type II compliant and interconnected with Peak 10′s private network, which provides customers with highly available Internet access and the ability to leverage data centers in nine other markets in implementing disaster recovery solutions.

The Atlanta metro area continues to be a hotbed of data center expansion activity. The market is one of the fastest-growing in the US for data center space, in terms of build-out and demand, according to a recent report by Tier1 Research.

In December, Telx announced it added 20,000 square feet of new data center space to its building at 56 Marietta Street in downtown Atlanta.

The same month, QualityTech completed its 130,000 square foot expansion of its Metro data center near downtown Atlanta.
