Paul Mullen Appointed Hostworks Managing Director

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Broadcast Australia (www.broadcastaustralia.com.au) has promoted corporate development officer Paul Mullen to managing director of web hosting subsidiary Hostworks, replacing Hostworks founder Marty Gauvin, who resigned in April.

According to Australian news site iTnews, former Sun Microsystems (www.sun.com) managing director Jim Hassell held the role of managing director in the interim until external and internal candidates were considered.

Mullen was an influential consultant during Broadcast Australia’s $68 million acquisition of Hostworks in early 2008, according to iTnews.

Mullen, however, will be facing a number of challenges facing the Macquarie Communications Infrastructure Group (www.macquarie.com.au), which owns Broadcast Australia, and is in lockdown until shareholders meet on June 17 to approve or reject an acquisition proposal from the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. Also, earlier in June, Hostworks lost the patronage of key Broadcast Australia customer SBS Television.
