(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider Parallels (www.parallels.com) announced last week it will outline plans for the company’s expansion into Asia-Pacific cloud computing market during the first Parallels APAC Summit (www.parallels.com/apac/summit), to be held on September 25.
According to a recent IDC study, “IDC Finds Cloud Computing Entering Period of Accelerating Adoption and Poised to Capture IT Spending Growth Over the Next Five Years”, spending on IT cloud computing services could reach $42 billion by 2012.
Parallels predicts a significant proportion of this market growth will be located in the Asia-Pacific region because there is a greater acceptance and the further adoption of more cost-effective cloud computing solutions.
Recognizing this, the company is expanding its presence in the APAC region by offering its portfolio of solutions, including Parallels Virtuozzo Containers, to more businesses and consumers in the region.
The company’s APAC expansion plans also include setting up offices in Australia and South Korea, in addition to existing offices in Beijing, Tokyo, Mumbai and Singapore, to serve its growing base of over 200 partners and 1,000 corporate users.
Parallels says it will offer further details of the plans during Parallels APAC Summit 2009 in Singapore, which it first revealed in May.
As an expansion to its US cloud services networking event, the conference will highlight “effective cloud computing infrastructures benefits for the industry and showcase potential solutions,” according to the press release.
The event will present a series of in-depth business and product sessions with Parallels executives and industry leaders.
“Distribution of cloud computing-based services has been observed to curb software piracy as distribution through cloud data centers is a part of an integrated service that can hardly be pirated,” says Serguei Beloussov, CEO of Parallels. “Considering a shift of focus from capital costs to operating costs, we believe IT is increasingly moving to the ‘cloud’ as an alternative provisioning model.”
The company will also be hosting a series of European hosting events throughout September, where it will offer networking and education opportunities leading to new revenue streams for both current and prospective partners.
