(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — “Everyone needs email and groupware, what could go wrong?” asks Unison Technologies CMO Rurik Bradbury. Apparently a lot.
Over the past few years, dark clouds have been growing on the horizon as industry giants Cisco, Google, and Microsoft have launched direct offerings, sparking a clash of the Titans, Bradbury said in his Parallels Summit session, “Unified communications — now for hosters.”
To borrow his analogy, hosting providers are like the Ewoks that are caught between the Jedi and the Dark Side’s fighting.
“Primative email and groupware won’t cut it against Google and Microsoft,” he said. And just like the Ewoks that reclaimed their native forest moon of Endor for invading forces, web hosts can reclain their place in the market.
Bradbury said that unified communication will be the next thing the giants will be pitching, and that current web hosts can beat them to the punch.
Unison offers fully unified communications for the first time to web hosts, letting them offer email, IM, telephone, calandars, voicemail, free/busy presence, and other features all in one place.
Special guest, Manlio Carrelli, CMO of Intermedia, said that his company chose to provide users Hosted Unison, providing them with the benefits of unified communication, without having to purchase servers or maintain them. It is yet another service to add to its portfolio of services, and it’s an important way to continue to differentiate their services from the Dark Side’s.
