September 17, 2003 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Overture Services Inc. (overture.com), a provider of Pay-Per-Click Web search solutions and a popular marketing channel among Web hosting firms, said today it had launched in Spain.

Quoting statistics from Nielsen NetRatings, the company said Spain is one of Europe’s fastest growing online markets, with more than 14 million users online – 95 percent of which use search engines on a regular basis.

At launch, the company said its Spanish distribution partners included MSN, Tiscali, Lycos,; Excite, Wanadoo and Ya, a Spanish Internet Service Provider. The company also said it would provide the Wanadoo Group in Spain with search results from FAST, which Overture acquired in April.

“With a large and growing online population, Spain is the logical next step in expanding our European reach,” said Brian Steel, president of Overture International. “Overture’s entry in the Spanish market will strengthen our global leadership in commercial search.”

Overture said it expects to expand into Austria, Switzerland, Scandinavia, and Australia before the end of the year. Earlier this summer, Internet portal giant Yahoo! (yahoo.com) signed an agreement to purchase the firm for approximately $1.63 billion.
