February 3, 2006 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — .travel sponsored domain name registrar Tralliance (tralliance.info) announced this week that 16,162 .travel domains have been registered during the first 16 weeks.
The registry says the .travel top level domain has formally established itself in the mainstream of the World Wide Web after completing the ICANN mandated limited launch phase. The fully operational registry can now accept .travel registrations within the wide scope of the global travel and tourism industry.
“.travel is now a permanent part of the foundation of the World Wide Web,” says Ron Andruff, president of Tralliance. “As travel and tourism businesses register their .travel domains they are not only reshaping the next generation Internet but making history by playing their role in this defining moment in the evolution of travel industry.”
The number of domains registered after only 16 weeks nearly exceeds all the other sponsored top level domains combined, including those that have existed for more than five years.
