Database software provider Oracle announced on Wednesday it has launched Oracle Government Cloud, a new set of cloud services that will give its government customers more agility and flexibility as they move mission-critical applications to the cloud.
The move comes a few months after SunGard Availability Services added support for virtualized platforms for its SunGard Managed Oracle Services.
The Oracle Government Cloud is a “comprehensive, flexible and cost effective suite of cloud applications and solutions” that will effectively expand Oracle’s cloud presence with a secure service built specifically for government.
Available now, Oracle Government Cloud is an Oracle Cloud solution, delivering a range of public, private and hybrid cloud services for Government agencies.
The set of cloud services include Oracle Service Cloud, Oracle RightNow Policy Automation and Oracle Learn Cloud .
These services will help agencies streamline a breadth of business processes, from financial and human resources management to customer service and project management.
Oracle Government Cloud will let agencies take advantage of a range of service options with the new software as a service offerings.
The company will also soon launch a number of infrastructure as a service and platform as a service offerings to meet the unique needs of government agencies.
Oracle Government Cloud provides the product, support and services government agencies need to move to the cloud, while addressing the demanding and unique security, compliance and operational requirements of the public sector.
The company owns, manages and certifies the underlying technology for Oracle Government Cloud, which ultimately provides customers with the high performance, scalability, availability and security needed to run mission-critical, government-specific solutions.

Earlier this year, Oracle acquired private cloud management software Nimbula, as well as cloud-based analytics platform DataRaker.
