(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) – Oracle (www.oracle.com) announced on Monday that it has launched its Oracle Cloud File System to enable storage pooling through an elastic storage cloud.

According to Oracle, some features of the Oracle Cloud File System include snapshots and replications of files for backup, data access security and encryption and aggregate management operations via file tags.

“Oracle Cloud File System delivers all the components and characteristics necessary for customers to deploy a storage cloud,” Angelo Pruscino, senior vice president of product development, Oracle said in a statement. “Organizations can move beyond expensive and difficult to manage and scale hardware and storage silos to a highly available, scalable cloud environment that adapts to change in workloads to meet their service level objectives. Oracle customers can begin down the path to a cloud storage environment today with the Oracle Cloud File System.”

The file system integrates Oracle Automatic Storage Management Cluster File System and Automatic Storage Management Dynamic Volume Manager. The cluster file system stores all files and the volume manager provides volume management support, enabling storage of all file system data.

The Oracle Cloud File System is $5,000 per processor.

This announcement comes less than a week after cloud services provider Amazon Web Services (aws.amazon.com) revealed its plans to add the Oracle 11g database to its web hosting portfolio this year.
