Dyn, the DNS provider that made headlines in October for a massive DDoS attack against its network, is in the news Monday for a different reason: its acquisition.

Oracle announced today that it has signed an agreement to acquire Dyn. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed. Each company will continue to operate independently until the transaction closes.

In a letter to partners and customers, Oracle President of Product Development Thomas Kurian said that adding Dyn’s DNS solution will extend the Oracle cloud platform while providing “enterprise customers  with a one-stop shop for Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS).”

“Oracle already offers enterprise-class IaaS and PaaS for companies building and running Internet applications and cloud services. Dyn’s immensely scalable and global DNS is a critical core component and a natural extension to our cloud computing platform,” Kurian said. “With Dyn, Oracle cloud customers will now have unique access to Internet performance information that will help them optimize infrastructure costs, maximize application and website-driven revenue, and manage risk.”

Oracle said that it is committed to “protecting and enhancing customer investments in Dyn solutions.” It plans to continue to invest in IaaS and PaaS to “include more functionality and capabilities at a quicker pace.”

“Oracle cloud customers will have unique access to Internet performance information that will help them optimize infrastructure costs, maximize application and website-driven revenue, and manage risk,” Kyle York, Chief Strategy Officer, Dyn said in a statement. “We are excited to join Oracle and bring even more value to our customers as part of Oracle’s cloud computing platform.”

Oracle is advising Dyn partners to continue to use their existing Dyn contacts until further notice.
