October 20, 2003 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Opsware (opsware.com), a provider of data center automation software, released the Intelligent Software Module (ISM) Development Kit on Monday, a product that enforces IT policies, allowing businesses and government organizations to build software packages that automate and reduce the costs of software provisioning, configuration and security compliance.

According to Opsware, The ISM Development Kit allows customers to create software packages in the form of ISMs that comply with IT policies and security requirements. ISMs prevent application failures and security breaches caused by misconfigurations and provisioning inaccuracies. It is designed to be used with Opsware System, which automates server management and data center processes.

“While every systems environment is unique they all share the common challenge of having to roll-out applications across their data center in a standardized and systematic manner, the ISM development kit allows companies to manage to a security baseline by creating an optimized installation footprint that can be easily duplicated and managed across multiple data centers,” said Tim Howes, chief technology officer at Opsware. “By embedding this intelligence in a software module, IT administrators can customize the installation process according to their own environment and consequently ensure consistency in every future software build.”

Using Opsware, ISMs then be repeatedly deployed across a large number of servers located across many data centers. The company said this would reduce the need for individual IT administrators to struggle with provisioning and configuration complexities for each individual deployment.
