July 11, 2007 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Software as a service delivery provider OpSource (opsource.net) announced on Tuesday that its chief technology officer will be speaking at open source convention OSCON 2007 (conferences.oreillynet.com/os2007/). The event will run from July 23 to 27 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon.

John Rowell will present “The Collision of Open Source and SaaS: Open Source as a Service,” where he will discuss the similarities of open source software and software-as-a-service. He’ll also explain how publishers of open source software can begin selling their products as SaaS and obtain benefits like a broader user base, eliminating software installation and configuarion, improved subscription revenue models and gain more visibility into how end users are using applications.

Rowell’s session will run from 4:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. PDT on July 25.

Last week, OpSource established a partnership with MarketShare to better serve the needs of new and existing software vendors transitioning to the SaaS business model.
