(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosts and Software as a Service providers can now replace Plesk Webmail in shared hosting environments with business-class email and groupware Open-Xchange (www.open-xchange.com) thanks to the release of an extension from developer 4PSA software (www.4psa.com).
According to Open-Xchange’s Tuesday announcement, 4PSA OXtender for Plesk integrates Open-Xchange with Parallels Plesk Panel, facilitating the transition to the AJAX-based web interface from Open-Xchange. 4PSA OXtender for Plesk simplifies Open-Xchange deployment, setup and provisioning, and enables hosts to add Open-Xchange to Parallels Plesk Server at a flat fee. It also simplifies Plesk management, helping automate tasks such as password changes, mailbox renames, and removals.
“Open-Xchange is the first business application that offers full integration with each of the two leading automation tools, Parallels Plesk Panel and Parallels Operations Automation,” Parallels Worldwide Service Providers president Jack Zubarev said in a statement. “Open-Xchange email and collaboration software gives hosters an ideal starting point to enter into the SaaS market — fast, easy and cost-effective.”
4PSA OXtender provides users with additional Personal Information Management features at no extra cost with an option to move to full groupware, as well as support for mobile devices. Open-Xchange is the only groupware specifically designed to meet the needs of SaaS providers, and is used by leading US hosting providers such as Dotster (www.dotster.com) and Network Solutions (www.networksolutions.com), as well as 1&1 Internet (www.1and1.com) in the U.S. and Germany.
4PSA OXtender for Plesk is currently available and supports shared hosting environments with Plesk 8.3 or later running on Linux/Unix. The software license includes Open-Xchange Webmail, maintenance subscription and installation support of 4PSA OXtender for Plesk and can be purchased from 4PSA and Open-Xchange. The Groupware Standard package for unlimited domains starts with the 4PSA OXtender for Plesk Base Pack, which includes 250 Open-Xchange seats per Plesk Server, all for $129.
Open-Xchange chief executive officer Rafael Laguna said Open-Xchange provides an ideal way for web hosts and service providers using Parallels Plesk Panel to deliver business-class email features such as groupware, advanced social network use, collaboration and mobile sync solutions. “Hosters remain competitive by replacing old webmail for all existing email accounts in a very cost-effective way – without changing their existing email infrastructure.”
