(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Open-source collaboration software provider Open-Xchange (www.open-xchange.com) has announced numerous enhancements to its social networking-enabled platform, and making sharing data easier than before.
According to the company’s Wednesday announcement, Open-Xchange 6.18 offers more than 100 improvements for email, calendar, address book, document and task management.
“We listened to the feedback from users and partners to help make Open-Xchange a central application for digital communication – both personal and business,” Open-Xchange chief executive officer Rafael Laguna said in a statement. “This release improves usability and stability in many areas, with focus on the Social OX features that make Open-Xchange the data hub for users.”
The latest version adds new “Social OX” capabilities that simplify the aggregation of email and contact information from external mail services such as gmx.com, MSN/Hotmail and T-Online. It also features more advanced subscription for addresses from social networks such as Facebook, LinkedIn and XING, and improved handling of tags for appointments and contacts.
Other enhancements include simplified document sharing using Open-Xchange’s “Publish and Subscribe” feature, and call history for the integrated VoIP service, as well as usability and design improvements to calendar, tasks and permissions. It also boasts improved mobility support to provide users access to their data anywhere, anytime and with virtually any device.
More than 15 million people worldwide currently have access to Open-Xchange’s email and groupware either as hosted service or as an on-premise solution. Agreements with Internet service providers have allowed them to offer Open-Xchange’s email and collaboration services. For instance, in June, domain name registrar EuroDNS (www.eurodns.com) extended Open-Xchange webmail and Personal Information Management to more than 250,000 of its customers at no additional charge.
Software as a Service customers will receive the new features as soon as their provider updates their accounts, and on-premise customers can update their installations with this release.
