Open-Xchange Consolidates Webmail and Social Media In a Single InBox

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Open-source groupware provider Open-Xchange (www.open-xchange.com) has now made it possible for users to consolidate any kind of existing webmail accounts from providers like Google and Yahoo into one folder for easier management.

According to its Tuesday announcement, Open-Xchange 6.12 users can also now integrate and merge their address books from Google Mail Gmail and Facebook into Open-Xchange. New contact details are added automatically providing users easy access to the latest contact information all from one place, in conjunction with Open-Xchange’s new groupware concept called “Social OX” that all email and contact information should be in one place, whether personal or business.

“Open-Xchange follows the path of Social OX, which we announced in July, to add new features that break the silos of isolated information, whether that is email, contacts, calendar information or documents,” Open-Xchange chief executive officer Rafael Laguna said in a statement. “This latest release is another step forward to integrated and effective teamwork.”

Additional new features of Open-Xchange 6.12 include publishing document folders and sharing documents with users who do not have Open-Xchange accounts without sending large file attachments via email. Users can also import contacts and appointments to private and public folders, and export contacts from private and public folders in CSV and vCard formats. It also offers improved team calendar functionality, local email backup and archiving, and a redesigned OXtender user interface for Microsoft Outlook support.

Open-Xchange is used by more than 3,500 organizations worldwide and the Open-Xchange Hosting Edition is used by more than 10 million users for business-class email, personal information management, and full groupware configurations.

On-premise customers can update their installations to version 6.12 immediately, and Software as a Service customers will be able to benefit from the new features as soon as their provider updates their accounts.
